Estate planning is not a requirement. No one can force you to make your will, create a power of attorney or to own your property in a way to avoid probate. As a result, people too often let common estate planning excuses stand in their way.
A competent elder law or estate attorney can discuss and use, where appropriate, such provisions as the family exemption, benefits to prepaying inheritance tax, even where the tax return is not yet complete and a listing of itemized deductions.
The early part of the year is often referred to as “divorce season,” since it’s a popular time for couples to part ways. Regardless of when it happens, divorce is a significant time of change for women in many aspects, especially when it comes to their finances and money management.
Being married is significant both for a married person’s lifetime estate planning and subsequent administration of the estate at death. Important rights and responsibilities exist between married persons.
One of the biggest concerns a trust creator might have is that the beneficiary would squander their inheritance or that the beneficiary’s creditor would attach the inheritance to cover the beneficiary’s debt.
No matter what line of work you are in, estate planning has facets that apply to everyone, and it comes down to documenting wishes and avoiding probate and unnecessary taxes. Too many people put it off, but, in general, the sooner you do it, the better.
This office is quite wonderful and Tia is the best! Before I contacted Tia, I felt as if I was out of options and there wasn't anything I could do. She more than helped me with my case, but was extremely supportive throughout the process. I would highly recommended this practice and Tia! I will always seek out her legal counsel!!

I have to say I’ve dealt with a few lawyers over the years, however most of the time, they are too busy and do not necessarily give you the time, that may be needed to go over everything. Mr. Lee Shaw, well he was willing to go the extra mile for me. He took the time to go over every single detail in arranging mine and my mothers wills, and also the POA for my mom and her estate. His staff especially Shannon, is fantastic, very amiable and astute! If I could give more stars I absolutely would, 5 stars is not enough!!
